The common idea of brick breaking as the whole concept behind a working video game is as old as the idea of video games themselves. When breakout was first introduced 30 years ago back in the 70’s it created a fan base, just with the concept of a paddle, a bouncing ball and a ton of bricks. This ready fan base kept growing from time to time. Now, this very same idea has been reinvented as time has passed by, until now.
Shatter is a refreshing new entry in the category. Its variety in design and gameplay, coupled with cool visuals and an exceptional background score, makes it feel like a total reinvention of brick-breaker genre. Shatter has a pure retro feel to its to its visuals with the simple bleeps and bloops as sound effects. But, the good thing is you don’t need any previous knowledge of this genre to enjoy Shatter. This is one video game that does nothing new but just builds on an existing concept and creates something new while holding onto principles that made this genre so compelling in the first place. The game is reasonably priced at $7.99.
The great thing is about this game is its inventive gameplay that builds on an existing concept to create something fresh. The original soundtrack gives you the feel of a blockbuster movie. The concept of leaderboards has been implemented very well. As far as gameplay goes there doesn’t seem to be anything bad to come out of this game.
