Firewire to USB adapter cable is available

It is found that a Firewire to USB adapter cable for transferring digital video (DV) is available from only a few manufacturers, but it is both expensive and difficult to find. Reason? Firewire (IEEE 1394) and USB (Universal Serial Bus) happen to be two separate high-speed bus technologies that make multiple devices to be connected to a computer possible. The two technologies are not integrated, and hence, it is not possible to join a USB device to a Firewire port either directly.
Well, if you don’t have a Firewire to USB adapter cable, it doesn’t indicate that your Firewire devices are ineffective if you have a USB port, or vice versa. Lots of companies do provide dual Firewire/USB hubs and this typical device has two ports in a single hub, which may be either external or internal; one port is used Firewire and one for USB, enabling either type of device to operate. What’s more the combination hub is actually two separate ports combined into a single form factor for convenience; there is no change between Firewire and USB taking place when these hubs are used.
There is another alternative and it is simply to add two separate cards. Both Firewire and USB cards are going down in price, and adding whichever one is missing should not represent a major expense.
If you cannot purchase a Firewire to USB adapter, perfect application of a hub allows you to make use of devices that are compatible with either technology.
